We all know too much sugar can turn to fat. Now scientists say they've discovered too much sugar also can make you dumb too. Apparently it can reduce your brainpower by slowing your synaptic activity.
It also can cause cavities. Yet I still have a sweet tooth.

And this one involves a golden retriever who gets carried away in rough waters, but what saves him is listening to his owner's voice and following that voice to safety.
See the story here.
My golden who is nearly blind now has to follow my voice to get in and out of the back patio and away from the pool. Can't help but love 'em.

Sophia and Jacob are tops

They top baby names from the 2011 Social Security Administrations' list. Tops for girls Sophia, Isabella, Emma, Olivia, and Ava.

He's a three legged gator who swims up to people when they snap their fingers. He's in a canal and the people are behind a fence. No one knows exactly how he got there since the canal doesn't have a connecting waterway and is fenced in. But he seems to like it.
People try to feed him, but he lets the food go to the fish. Maybe he wants to fatten up the fish for dinner.
You can read more about it here.

So your little bundle of joy is going to require a wad of cash. The total from birth to age 17 is $227,000. With inflation, $287,000. And that doesn't include college.

A study has found that nearly two thirds of the population are obsessed with the device that is not just a phone. It's also a camera, an internet surfer, an email conduit and so much more.
You can read more about nomophobia here. At first glance, I thought it was the fear of garden gnomes.

Your drive is linked to your waistline

If your commute to work is long, you're more than likely to be overweight and have poorer fitness levels than those who take less time to get to work. This is according to a study of more than 4-thousand people. The study found those who drive more than 15 miles to work had larger waists, lower cardiovascular fitness levels, higher blood pressure and higher body mass index.
Of course, the obvious reason is you have more time to exercise and eat right when you're not spending it on the road.
You can read more about it here as you contemplate getting a job closer to home.

Amazing but true. Her owner threw the cat in with the comforter not realizing she was wrapped up in it and let the machine do its thing. After hearing meowing for a while and not being able to find her, she happened to see her face in the machine.
Tabitha was rushed to the vet. She had water on the lungs, hypothermia and was in a state of shock. Amazingly, she survived okay but not without being really upset with her owner. The owner says she wouldn't even look at her and would turn her back on her for a while. Lucky for the cat, the owner stopped using hot water some time ago.

The music loving elephant at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington. This pachyderm loves to play the harmonic and makes up her own tunes. She also makes noises by rubbing her legs on bushes and flapping her ears on objects. She's a regular one elephant band.

You meet someone, you remember their face and not their name. It happens to me too. A memory expert has some great tips to help. You can find them here.
Some of the highlights: When you meet someone, look at their face and find something to remember and then rhyme it: like Cole has a mole, or use alliteration like: Lucy has a long nose.
Also another technique is to say their name out loud again as you meet them so your brain associates their name with their face.
Good luck.
