Ellen Hospitalized After Drinking Wine? Seriously, It Happened!

At the start of Tuesday's show, Ellen DeGeneres made an announcement.

That's right, Ellen was hospitalized this weekend. The reason? Ellen said she had to go to the ER because she drank two glasses of wine.

Well, it was actually what happened AFTER she drank too much wine that sent her to the hospital.

Ellen started Tuesday's show by having the camera zoom in on her hand to show that her finger was in a splint.

"I broke my finger," she said. "I know what you're thinking: 'How can you host a show without the tip of my ring finger?' I am not gonna let this thing beat me. I am not."

It turns out, by the way, that the finger was not actually broken. Ellen clarified that she had dislocated the finger when she was returning home from a party where she had a few glasses of wine. Ellen, by the way, did not drive home for the party. Her wife, Portia de Rossi, was driving.

"I was a foot away from the door and I fell into the door and it did something to my finger, I knew something was wrong," DeGeneres recalls in this clip from her talk show

Ellen showed an x-ray of her dislocated finger to the audience, and she even described (in detail) the process of putting her finger back into place. OUCH. The clip is not for the easily squeamish

The daytime television star, of course, is known for giving out cash (and prizes) to those in need. Well, Ellen's heroics of dislocating a finger after having too much wine did not go unnoticed.

"Luckily, my friends from Shutterfly heard my story and they love helping people out in need, so they wanted to present me with this check for $10,000, which is so nice," she joked as a giant (fake) check was presented to her.
