"I got stuck in traffic."

It's the number one reason people say they were late for work, and here in South Florida it's not just accepted as a legitimate reason, it's practically expected that people will be late.

Other top reasons people are late - though less likely to get you off the hook:

Alarm didn't go off

Kids wouldn't get up

Couldn't find the keys

Then there are the not-at-all-legit reasons for being late. CareerBuilder surveyed managers to find out some of the most outrageous reasons employees had given for not getting to the office on time.

My personal favorite for utter brashness: the employee who was late because of a job interview with another firm!
