More than an Idol - an Inspiration
Posted 6/30/2010 7:30:00 AM
We had the opportunity to talk with 'American Idol' alum David Archuleta this morning. What a sweetheart! An incredibly humble guy, despite the huge success he's experienced since being on Idol.
But it didn't all come easy to him. He dealt with vocal paralysis as a youngster (yes, I know he's STILL a 'youngster' at 19, but this was when he was about 12), and overcame the problem with years of vocal therapy.
His persistence in the face of difficulty has given him strength, and his strong family bonds have kept him grounded. In the face of instant fame, what he appreciates most is the ability to inspire people with his music.
David performs at A Capitol Fourth, the 30th Anniversary Fourth of July concert & festival in Washington, D.C.  It'll be live on PBS this Sunday.
He's also become an author, getting great reviews for his book, "Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song and the Power of Perseverence".
For all the news about David's new song & album and his blog posts, check his official website.
Just in case you missed it this morning, here's the entire interview, uninterrupted.

Mrs. Hellen Jaffe, I would like to say in the name of the brazilian fans of David Archuleta, thank you so much for this interview, you are such an awesome lady. In a world where sometimes people exagerate on the questions, or make a fool of David sometimes, you showed to us the quality of an interview. We are really proud to accompany him since the beggining, and for sure we are for David, what he is for us, "joy of living". He is beyond words...someone magical and incredible. Thank you so much again, and keep playing his songs.

This is one of the best interviews I've heard recently. You get him, just as we do. He's so much more than a great singer, but unique in all the world. It's been a priviledge to be on the journey with him.

Ellen, you are a jewel! I always hesitate whether I want to listen to an interview with David or not, because they often ask mean questions of him that they would never ask anyone else, trying to embarrass him. David is always polite, even when they are mean. So to hear this wonderful, warm, and positive interview has made my day.David IS an inspiration, just read his book to get the full picture. He is such an example to people of all ages. His voice can heal your soul and brighten any day.I am looking forward to "A Capitol Fourth" where he will shine for sure.
