I heard an ad the other day suggesting that with the change of season we should also 'freshen up' our home with new accents and autumn-inspired pieces. Other than full-out holiday decorating, I'd never thought of updating furniture or accessories on a seasonal basis. Not sure why not; I love to buy new clothes in fall colors, and it's easy to get drawn by the 'pretty, shiny' new makeup and nail polish colors that show up on store shelves. Maybe it goes back to growing up in a home where we kept the furniture until ... well, actually, we kind of never got rid of anything. Pieces got re-upholstered or handed down to someone else in the family (yes, I still have a wall unit that my parents bought in ... oh, never mind).

But now that I'm looking at some of the decorating suggestions, I realize that a couple of pillows or a throw can spruce up the home without costing much at all.
