Stormy Teacher's Planning Day
Posted 10/26/2012 7:35:00 AM

If adults could have the day off for 'Boss's Planning', today would be ideal. It's stormy enough to feel no need to go outdoors; but not stormy enough to worry about your life or property. It's the perfect day for reading, relaxing, napping, catching up on DVR'd shows.

For kids, on the other hand, it can be one long, dreary episode of "I'm BORED"!

So here are some suggestions for ways they can entertain themselves today.

The standards never get old:

jacks, pick-up sticks, marbles

Monopoly, Shoots and Ladders, Life, Battleship, Trouple

Apples to Apples, Scrabble, Pictionary

Go Fish, Uno, Solitaire

I'm pretty sure you don't need suggestions for Video Games - the kids undoubtedly have that covered already. But if they're going to spend time surfing the web, you can direct them to websites that have fun games and activities. National Geographic has tons of ideas, including Pumpkin Carving for Halloween. Putting together a costume for Halloween is also a great way for them to pass hours - ask them to create something using only items that are already in the house (your closet and the toolbox off-limits!).

And if they still feel bored, I'd invite them to try 'being you' for a day ... and let them fix dinner, do the laundry, make the beds, sweep the floors, wash the windows ... etc.
