500 Million reasons to call a lawyer
Posted 11/28/2012 8:14:00 AM

Tonight's $500 million Powerball drawing is the second largest jackpot in lottery history. Everyone buying a ticket has dreams in mind of what they want to do with that money if they win, from paying off the mortgage, to buying a Lamborghini, to starting a charity.

One thing you for sure want to keep in mind is your attorney's phone number, especially if you've pitched your possible fortune together with your co-workers - or any group of people, even family members.

A whole new kind of case law has developed because of disputes over group-purchased lottery tickets. Remarkably, even 500 million dollars isn't always enough to make everyone happy. To protect yourself in advance, be sure to make copies of every group ticket purchased, along with a list of how much money each participant contributed, and give everyone a copy. It's a lot harder to contest the facts!

Think it couldn't happen with your friends? I sure hope not, but here are some eyebrow-raising stories of bad behavior from real winners.

** By the way - the numbers most-often chosen in these drawings: 1, 7, 14, 29, 44, 56, 59
