Planning to stay home and have your own fireworks display? Here are some safety tips from the National Council on Fireworks Safety:
*Read the warning labels.
*Alcohol and fireworks don't mix.
*Supervise teens using fireworks. Young children should never handle or use fireworks.
*Use fireworks outdoors only.
*Always have water ready.
If these sound obvious, keep in mind that there were nearly 10,000 fireworks-related injuries just during last year's Fourth of July season.

Some New Year's Eve traditions from around the world:
- Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico: Eating 12 grapes in the 12 seconds before midnight can earn you a whole year’s worth of good luck, one good month for each grape. Some people make a wish on each grape.
- Guatemala: Guatemalans write down the bad/unhappy memories from the past year and burn it in a bonfire to symbolize starting a fresh in the Año Nuevo.
- Finland: In Finland, people melt lead on the stove and then toss it into cold water. The resulting shape is analyzed to predict what’s to come in the New Year.
Drink a glass of water in between every alcoholic beverage.
Stick to one type of liquor, don't mix drinks.
Eat. Don't drink on an empty stomach.
Alka-Seltzer really works.
