47 HOURS in traffic!
Posted 2/6/2013 8:58:00 AM

According to the latest report, South Floridians spend about 47 hours a year stuck in traffic. That's more than a week of work. It's so frustrating. Aside from knowing that you'll be late to wherever you're going, there just isn't very much you can do to occupy your time. Anything that takes your attention away from the road ahead can be dangerous, so that leaves out reading, texting and finishing your makeup.

Of course, listening to the radio is a great option (thank you to all the LITE FM Listeners who mentioned that as their number one way to stay calm during a traffic jam). Singing along with your favorite songs always helps relieve stress!

Some other options - that won't even distract you from the radio, much less the road:

Take deep breaths. It's amazing how much this can clear your mind and relax your body.

Keep some lavendar scented air freshener in the car.

Streeetcchh. Move your head side to side to get the kinks out. Roll your shoulders. Circle your ankles (not the one on the brake).

Run through your to-do list. Move things around to accommodate running late.

Brain-storm a project you're working on. Try to find a solution to a difficult issue.

Do some daydreaming about yoru future. Picture yourself in 5 years, or 10. Set some goals to help you get there.

Make up funny stories about the people in the cars around you. Imagine where they work & what their biggest challenge will be today.

Remind yourself that the traffic delay is only temporary.
