Texting while ... sleeping?

This is taking multi-tasking to a whole new level!
More and more, people are receiving texts that they can't understand, coming from people who don't remember they sent the text in the first place. It's 'texting while sleeping', the newest tech-associated malady to take hold.
Sounds impossible, but doctors say it can happen when we're in a 'half-asleep' state of rest, not fully awake, not fully asleep, and able to do things on autopilot. The director of behavioral sleep medicine at Montefeore Medical Center in New York says younger generations, especially young professionals, appear to be more susceptible to the behavior - those people who are constantly connected, checking and responding to work texts and emails around the clock.
While sending garbled texts may be a bit embarrassing for adults, the behavior can be a bigger problem for adolescents, if texting is interrupting their sleep at an age when they need it most for the development of the brain.
