School's out, camp's in

Are you looking at a couple of months of long days filled with, "Mom, I'm bored!"?
You can fill the kids' summer days with great activities and help stop the 'summer slide' - the educational slip kids can experience over the summer when they don't exercise their brain - all at once, by signing them up for camp. Fortunately there's a huge variety of camps available for kids of all ages and all interests; many are free, or with sliding scale fees.
The Children's Trust has a complete guide to camps in Miami-Dade County. I spoke with Emily Cardenas of the Children's Trust, and she explained how important camp programs are in helping kids with their social, physical and academic development. The kids will also create great memories that they'll treasure for the rest of their life (I can still sing all the songs I learned at Beacon Hill Day Camp in Miami Gardens ... "Beacon Hill's the camp for me, where everybody has a good time, we all like the arts & crafts, and backwards day, where everybody laughs...").
Broward County also has a full range of camp programs, part time, full time, indoor, outdoor, you name it, it's here.
Now if someone can just figure out a way for adults to take 2 months off (with salary) to go to summer camp.
Oh, I guess that's called 'retirement'. Well, can't hurt to daydream :)
