Protect your identity online

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing consumer crimes; even an identity theft and fraud expert was a victim of identity theft when he was - where else? - in Florida!
Part of the problem is the abundance of Wifi hotspots available for free in public locations. Part of the problem is with every new protection someone creates, someone else finds a new way to get past it.
Here are some tips to keep your internet & identity as safe as possible.
* Make sure your firewll is turned on and your virus and malware protection are up to date.
* Use strong passwords - include letters, numbers and symbols. Use different ones for every site & change them frequently.
* When you use a Wifi hotspot, indentify it as 'public' so your laptop will use more secure network settings.
* Don't pay bills or use credit cards at Wifi hotspots.
To keep your personal at-home Wifi safe from freeloaders, consider using an SSID (Network name) that will scare people away. Some suggestions from the experts:
'I will hack you'
Undoubtedly you can think of plenty of your own.
Happy - and safe - surfing!
