Back to School Breakfast

Your morning a week from today will likely be a little busier than this morning - the first day back to school, with all the accompanying frenzy.
Throughout the week I'll be gathering & posting tips to help you organize & simplify the process (I know how hard it is staying organized just taking care of a home & work - can't even imagine how challenging it is when you add kids and school schedules into the mix!!).
I'm starting today with breakfast. It might not be the most important thing on your list, but it's considered by most nutritionists as the most important meal of the day, especially for growing kids who need the nutrition not just for physical energy, but for mental energy and alertness too.
If morning's are generally a hectic race to get out the door and breakfast gets lost in the rush, a little advance planning can make a big difference.
1. Keep a standard shopping list of healthy breakfast staples - proteins, fresh fruit, complex carbs, milk, etc. (Here's a list of the top 20 healthy breakfast foods).
2. Plan one day a week to pick up the items you'll need for a week of breakfasts.
3. Any meals that can be prepared in advance - do it, in multiples. Take one hour on a Sunday to prep all the breakfasts for the week and then the kdis can just grab and go (make extra portions and you'll have enough for yourself).
