My world stopped the day I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

I am certain God instructed me to check my breast. At first, I fought the idea of cancer and didn’t want it to be true, but I’m glad I found out when I did.  Following my diagnosis, I had a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation.

During the hard times, the love for my children, family, friends, dogs, and especially my grandchildren kept me going through my journey.  My family fought cancer alongside with me by encouraging me, giving me strength, and love.   I battled to be here for them, and because of my faith in God, I refused to give up HOPE! If I could describe the one uplifting word to describe my breast cancer journey, it would be FAMILY.

I prefer to refer to myself as a Conqueror.   I feel that I'm so much more than a Thriver or Survivor.  I feel that Conqueror best describes me because of the many obstacles I've had to overcome in the past and current obstacles I'm dealing with now.

In spite of all the dark days I’ve gone through, I’m still here.  Breast Cancer came to rob me of my femininity and left me broken, but faith and hope give me encouragement and keep me moving forward.

About the Faces of a Warrior Campaign

Last year, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Race for the Cure®, Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale teamed with 101.5 LITE FM to launch the Faces of a Warrior campaign.

To mark the 21st Annual Race for the Cure®, Komen is spotlighting 21 survivors to represent each year the Race has run. These individuals are sharing their stories of strength and resilience -- not just of surviving breast cancer, but thriving in spite of it.
