I found a list from parents about their top regrets when raising their children. I figure it's a good lesson for all parents to read to not make the same mistakes.
The first one is spending too little time with their kids. I hear that one a lot from friends who say enjoy their time now. It'll be gone before you know it.
Number two regret is not prioritizing their needs, not yours. Think about what they need to be spending time on, not the piano lessons you wanted for them, but what is good for them.
Number three on the list is don't sweat the small stuff. Don't worry if they don't say please and thank you all the time. They're kids.
Number four don't take short cuts. Instead of just punishing them when they act out. Take time to find out what the underlying problem is.
And lastly, guilt. Feeling guilty is crippling and serves no purpose. Enjoy your kids for the moment.
