5 Things We Just Learned About the 'Roseanne' Revival

The Show Will Basically Ignore Dan's Death

August 9, 2017

The upcoming Roseanne revival will act like 1997 didn't happen. OK, we're not totally sure about that. However, we know that ABC's upcoming reboot of Roseanne will at least ignore parts of the series' very jarring finale.

So what else do we know about the upcoming series revival? We're learning a lot. Here are five things we know about the upcoming series revival. The reboot will air in 2018 on ABC.

DAN CONNER WILL BE ALIVE
ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey told a TV critics panel that "Dan is very much alive" in the series revival, which will air on ABC in early 2018.

WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE FINALE?

The jarring finale for the show was viewed by more than 16 million Americans in 1997. It was revealed that the plot of show's final season was a coping mechanism for Roseanne Conner (Roseanne Barr) as she dealt with Dan Conner (John Goodman)'s death.

The finale also had other drastic changes for the show's core characters. Roseanne revealed her sister Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) was a lesian. Plus, Roseanne "switched" the partners for her her daughters Becky (Lecy Goranson/Sarah Chalke) and Darlene (Sara Gilbert).

Dungey did not clarify if the show's reboot would ignore the entire series finale or if it would just be ignoring Dan's death.

WILL JOHNNY GALECKI RETURN?

Johnn Galecki (who played David Healey) on the show is in talks to return to the show. It could, however, be difficult. Galecki, of course, has commitments to CBS' Big Bang Theory, and the 2018 Roseanne revival is expected to film in October.

WHICH ACTRESS WILL PLAY BE PLAYING BECKY?

We can't forget that Sarah Chalke replaced Lecy Goranson in the show's fifth season as Roseanne and Dan's oldest daughter, Becky.

Roseanne has revealed that Goranson will play the role of Becky in the revival. However, a different character for Sarah Chalke is being written into the revival.

WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE CAST?
Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Lauren Metcalf, Michael Fishman, and Sara Gilbert will all return to the series. Talks are underway for Johnny Galecki to return.

Glenn Quinn played the role of Mark Healy (Becky's husband) during Roseanne's original run. Quinn died in 2002. Roseanne Barr had previously revealed (in a post on her website) that she imagined that Mark would have died in Iraq.
