Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir Will Host the Closing Ceremony at the Olympics

February 23, 2018

They were stars before the 2018 Olympics started, but they've become super stars during the Pyeongchang games.

Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir will host NBC's coverage of the closing ceremony. The pair have become fan favorites as they have worked as color commentators for the network's figure skating coverage this year.

Weir and Lipinski will be joined along with their play-by-play partner Terry Gannon during Sunday's broadcast.

Tara Lipinski, of course, shocked world when she beat out Michelle Kwan to take home the gold medal in ladies figure skating during the 1998 Olympic games in Nagano. Weir, meanwhile, became a fan favorite when he placed sixth in the men's figure skating program during the 2010 games in Vancouver.

NBC's President of Olympic Programming, Jim Bell, described the ceremony as the "after-party" at the Olympics.

“It’s the moment when the athletes and the host city can all finally relax and have some fun," Bell said in a press release. "And I can’t think of anyone better to guide us through the pageantry of dancing, fireworks, and K-pop than Terry, Tara, and Johnny.”

A live stream of the closing ceremony will be available online at 6 a.m. on Sunday. NBC will air the broadcast in primetime on Sunday night starting at 8 p.m. ET.
