To Pierce Or Not to Pierce

When you get ready for work, you probably choose earrings as part of your accessorial accoutrements. While some of you may go the clip-on route, most of you have pierced ears, yes?
Did you pierce your baby's ears? Were yours pierced when you were a baby? Or maybe you were a bit older, grown even, before you made the trek into piercedom.
Just yesterday, I saw this article and had no idea it was such a controversy! There are those who strongly believe piercing one's ears should be put off until the child is old enough to make the decision. There are those who say you make many decisions for your child well before they can make a choice themselves, so why is this any different? What say you?
For many it's a cultural tradition. In fact, lots of babies leave the hospital with pierced ears. There is a safer way to perform the procedure on an infant; what I mean by that is piercing guns cannot be sterilized (I had no idea!! That's how mine were pierced! YIKES!), so it's best to have a pediatrician perform the piercing with a needle.
So, when you're getting ready for work tomorrow and selecting the earrings that go best with your outfit, remember all the brouhaha that's behind that hole in your lobe!!
