In a comedy career that spanned six decades, Joan Rivers was truly a ground-breaking, trend-setting, barrier-bashing one-of-a-kind.
Long before she was known as the Plastic Surgery Queen, Joan Rivers was:
*The first regular guest host on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
*The first woman to have her own night-time talk show, 'The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers' on Fox (she'd already hosted a daytime talk show, That Show With Joan Rivers - in 1969.
*The first female comedian to perform at Carnegie Hall.
*An author (Her latest book, 'Diary of A Mad Diva' was just published in July.)
*An entrepreneur (Can you say 'The Joan Rivers Classic Collection' on QVC?)
And let's not forget that she was a wife and mother. Joan and daughter Melissa were also co-workers. Melissa produced 'The Fashion Police'. Their relationship is documented in their reality series, 'Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best?'. The episode here shows the real, loving relationship they had. Ironically, or fittingly, the episode, called 'Skintervention' focuses on Joan's affinity for plastic surgery.
