And a Happy New Year

Posted 12/30/2013 6:12:00 PM

As we say aloha to 2013, here's a list of festivities to welcome 2014:

For the kids:

For the grown-up kids (Tri-County):

In Miami:

And if you find that all of the ringing in has got you seeing double, make sure you don't get behind the wheel of a car. If you don't have a designated driver, use the Tow to Go Program; a free, confidential ride home - for you and your vehicle!  Keep this information with you as you may be able to help someone else!

Here's a list of what's open and closed on New Year's Day: and a bit more detailed:

Make sure to spend the new year, here, with 101.5 LITE FM!

Recycle your tree

Posted 12/26/2013 8:24:00 AM

For me one of the saddest sights post-holiday is seeing Christmas Trees thrown away. There is nothing worse than seeing a Christmas tree lying on its side, in a swale, discarded. Just days ago, this was the symbol of all things happy and good; now, it's browning and bare, a few strands of tinsel where twinkling lights once reflected. What are you supposed to do then, you ask?

RECYCLE YOUR TREE - let it live on as mulch as a thank you for the holiday joy it brought you!

Two ways to do it: Chop it up yourself and spread it around the places you mulch - you'll have Christmas Tree scent wafting from your yard for months!

Or drop it off at a Tree Recycling Location:

Puppy Love

Posted 12/9/2013 6:26:00 PM

It's not always that you see something and it grabs on a visceral level. This did. From the very first photos I saw of Theo & Beau, I was hooked.

Sure, Beau's an adorable little boy and Theo's just the cutest puppy, but it went beyond that; there was something else in these photos that grabbed me by the cockles and began warming.

Mrs. Shyba, mother of Beau (& Theo :) said it best, "Theo and Beau's friendship is 'the most organic and beautiful  relationship I have ever witnessed'".  The simplicity of babies peacefully at rest, intertwined in innocence and love... it doesn't get much better than that.

I'm so glad Mrs. Shyba continues to share what's become my favorite love story! Enjoy.

It's Not Just For Kids

Posted 8/1/2013 3:10:00 PM

The Sales Tax Holiday begins tomorrow and it's not just for kids! Sure, you can score lots of back-to-school necessities, but don't forget about you! Maybe a few new work ensembles? Accessories to go with? Perhaps an upgrade to your computer? Yes! New this year to the Sales Tax Holiday are personal computers and related computer accessories.

The official description:

“Personal computer” means an electronic device that accepts information in digital or similar form and manipulates such information for a result based on a sequence of instructions. The term includes any electronic book reader, laptop, desktop, handheld, tablet, or tower computer but does not include cellular telephones, video game consoles, digital media receivers, or devices that are not primarily designed to process data.

“Related computer accessories” includes keyboards, mice (mouse devices), personal digital assistants, monitors, other peripheral devices, modems, routers, and nonrecreational software, regardless of whether the accessories are used in association ...

To Pierce Or Not to Pierce

Posted 7/30/2013 3:10:00 PM

When you get ready for work, you probably choose earrings as part of your accessorial accoutrements. While some of you may go the clip-on route, most of you have pierced ears, yes?

Did you pierce your baby's ears? Were yours pierced when you were a baby? Or maybe you were a bit older, grown even, before you made the trek into piercedom.

Just yesterday, I saw this article and had no idea it was such a controversy! There are those who strongly believe piercing one's ears should be put off until the child is old enough to make the decision. There are those who say you make many decisions for your child well before they can make a choice themselves, so why is this any different? What say you?

For many it's a cultural tradition. In fact, lots of babies leave the hospital with pierced ears. There is a safer way to perform the procedure on ...
